Pleased to see White Petals in the CBC Summer Selection! 🙂
In 2011, I was accepted as one of the fifteen students to join the inaugural Curtis Brown Creative novel-writing course. When I joined the course, I had completed the first 10,000 words of White Petals. During my time with CBC, I redrafted that initial 10,000 words to improve the story, strengthen the voice, structure the timeline and make the plot more dramatic.
I was taught by Anna Davis and Jake Arnott – both of whom were fantastic tutors. I think we were all able to learn a lot from both of them, and each tutor helped us with different issues and skills. Anna particularly helped me. She really helped me to be objective with the story and structure everything to make the plot more dramatic for the reader.
The students who were on the course with me that summer were such an amazing bunch of people. Not only did they really help me with all the workshopping and constructive feedback, but they made my time with CBC unforgettable. I’m so glad that I chose that first ever course to apply for, because I still feel now that there was something special about that first one. I absolutely loved the entire experience, and I met some wonderful people in the process!
