The Invitation

The Invitation

It doesn’t interest me

what you do for a living.

I want to know

what you ache for

and if you dare to dream

of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me

how old you are.

I want to know

if you will risk

looking like a fool

for LOVE

for your dream

for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me

what planets are

squaring your Moon…

I want to know

if you have touched

the centre of your own sorrow

if you have been opened

by life’s betrayals

or have become shrivelled and closed

from fear of further pain.

I want to know

if you can sit with pain

mine or your own

without moving to hide it

or fade it

or fix it.

I want to know

if you can be with joy

mine or your own

if you can dance with Wildness!

and let the ecstasy fill you

to the tips of your fingers and toes

without cautioning us

to be careful

to be realistic

to remember the limitations

of being human.

It doesn’t interest me

if the story you are telling me

is true.

I want to know if you can

disappoint another

to be true to yourself.

If you can bear

the accusation of betrayal

and not betray your own Soul.

If you can be faithless

and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty

even when it is not pretty

every day.

And if you can source your own life

from its presence.

I want to know

if you can live with failure

yours and mine

and still stand at the edge of the lake

and shout to the silver of the full moon,

“Yes.”

It doesn’t interest me

to know where you live

or how much money you have.

I want to know if you can get up

after the night of grief and despair

weary and bruised to the bone

and do what needs to be done

to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me

who you know

or how you came to be here.

I want to know if you will stand

in the centre of the fire

with me

and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me

where or what or with whom

you have studied.

I want to know

what sustains you

from the inside

when all else falls away.

I want to know

if you can be alone

with yourself

and if you truly like

the company you keep

in the empty moments.

Reviews Are Important!

By | My Life on a Plate, White Petals, Writing Stuff

Thank you so much to this woman, for making the choice and taking the time and energy to read my lovely book, and letting me know that she liked it.

It’s so nice when someone lets you know that they have read and enjoyed your book. It genuinely does make a difference, I swear! 💜

This is why we need those good reviews – not just to encourage sales, but to also encourage heart to keep on writing.

Thank you to every single person who takes the time to let an author know that they enjoy and care about their work. It really does mean so much! 🙏 💜

Lovely Review! 🙏💜

By | My Life on a Plate, White Petals, Writing Stuff

Weather has been really dull this week, and I’ve not been feeling too well, either.

I was sulking around the house this morning, drinking ginger and honey to try and boost my immune system a bit, and as I sat down to check my emails etc, I was uplifted by this lovely review…

“I’ve just finished White Petals, and I was so happy with the way it ended! 😀 There was a bit in the last couple of pages where Emmeline says about how human beings always try to explain everything in life, but sometimes we can’t really explain things, and we just have to accept them and have faith. She talks about all the ‘thousands of little synchronicities that we are mostly unaware of’, and that paragraph really struck me. I’ve been going through a bit of a tough time lately, and something about those words brought comfort to me.”

– Casey, 17

Casey’s words came at the right time for me, and just as the words in my book brought comfort to her, her words brought comfort to me. So, Casey, wherever you are, thank you! This was a little synchronicity that I needed today, and I’m very grateful to you! 🙏💜

Walking the Path: The Next Natural Step

By | Cool Stuff, My Life on a Plate, Writing Stuff

Just had my article/review published on HuffPost for Walking the Path – the follow-up course after Path of Love, both by Path Retreats.

It seems I am on a linking path with this community, and I welcome the journey, the work and the connection. These have been my favourite things to do this year, and by far the most beneficial personal development retreats/courses I have ever done!

Feel free to have a look at the article/review, and see what you think! 🙂

Much love 💜

Review of Walking the Path Retreat

Path of Love : Boot Camp for the Soul!

By | My Life on a Plate, Writing Stuff

In June this year, I was given the opportunity to attend the Path of Love retreat in Buckland Hall, Brecon.

Path of Love is a global seven-day intensive personal development retreat, and is famous worldwide for its therapeutic and transformational process.

I was nervous about going, but boy am I glad I did!

Here’s the link to my third HuffPost piece – Path of Love: Boot Camp for the Soul!

Hope you enjoy! 🙂

With love,

Typing Blanks

By | My Life on a Plate, Uncategorized, Writing Stuff

For a while now, I’ve had some trouble accessing my creative inspiration. I’ve managed to write a couple of articles, but when it comes to writing stories, I’ve been suffering from the dreaded disease that all writers are afraid of: Writer’s Block.

Yes, friends. I’m typing blanks.

The honest truth is that after suffering with some health problems, it’s not just my body that’s been affected. My mind has been affected, my heart has been affected, my mood has been affected, and my creativity has been affected, too. It’s been a real bitch of a few months, and I’m having treatment for both the physical and emotional effects of my health issues, so I’ll get there. In the meantime, though, I’ve decided to take a little break from writing because I don’t want to force the writing process. If I’m driven by pressure, instead of pleasure, then quite frankly, I’m screwed. I can’t write well, if my body and mind isn’t well. I can’t write well, if pressure is the reason I’m writing. I write because I love it. My love of writing has to be my primary driving force, otherwise what’s the point?

So, in the spirit of being kind to myself, I will be taking a little break from writing. Just for a few months. I’m going to snuggle up, rest, live gently and get well. Once I feel well enough to write again – however long that takes – then I will be back with a new HuffPost article and hopefully a new boost of energy!

Wish me luck!

With love,

Maria

Amazing Authors in August!

By | My Life on a Plate, White Petals, Writing Stuff

I was asked to do an interview with The Book Activist for Amazing Authors in August.

I have to say, I absolutely loved it! There’s no better interview than a juicy or/and fun interview! I really like it when interviewers do something a bit different and put their own twist on the interview and the kind of questions they ask . It makes the interview fun and interesting for me to participate in, and I’m sure it makes for better reading for the audience.

So, thank you to The Book Activist for inviting me to be one of their Amazing Authors in August, and here’s the interview link below:

My First Huffington Post Article!

By | My Life on a Plate, Writing Stuff

The time has come.
I have finally got myself a place in the Huffington Post family! I’m so pleased! Yaaay! 😀
I have to stop using so many exclamation marks, I know. I’m just so excited, though!
I won’t babble on about it for too long, but I will say that my articles will be written on a mix of different subjects – not just about writing. I’ll be writing about personal development, women’s issues, parenting, relationships, health – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. I’ll be writing about lots of different things during my time with Huff Post, and I’m really looking forward to it all!

So, here’s my first official Huffington Post blog post. It’s titled, Working with your Editor. It’s about … erm … well, working with your editor. If you don’t know much about what an editor actually does during the writing and publishing process, then this article is a good place to start learning.

Enjoy! xx
